WHAT IF WE LIVED IN A WORLD WHERE WE COULD ALL JUST SAY WHAT WE NEEDED TO AND FEAR DIDN’T HAVE SUCH A HOLD ON OUR LIVES?
It is natural that obstacles arise with new endeavors. To manifest what we desire, we need to walk into each and every obstacle that arises or we will never achieve all that we intend.
When we haven’t done what we said we are going to do, we begin to feel bad. There are two aspects to this. One deals with integrity, when we don’t do what we say we are going to do, we begin to chip away at our self confidence, our trust in ourselves. When we can’t trust our own word, then we most likely don’t trust others. It’s a horrible cycle of mistrust and can be very alienating to people with whom we are in relationship. The second aspect deals with picking ourselves back up and facing reality that we didn’t knock it out of the park, but with perseverance and confidence we were ready to try again.
“Losers quit when they fail and winners fail until they succeed.” -Robert Kiyosaki
When I was younger because I had been naturally athletic, sports came easily to me. I thought that’s how life was supposed to be. If you are naturally talented then everything would be easy. If you were inherently smart then school would be a breeze. I’m not sure where I developed that thinking, but it was there. When highschool hit and I was on the swim team and only mediocre, and everything was so hard… I dropped out. I thought, this is obviously not where I’m talented. Where was my grit? Where was my ability to pick myself back up and start again?
It has taken many years to understand that I was afraid of working really hard and still not being good enough. That’s right, it all comes down to fear. What separates the winners from the losers? It’s those that get back up when they fail. It’s an internal commitment inside of someone that says no matter what, I keep going. No matter what, I’m good enough. We don’t have to contemplate being second place, we just have to focus on getting better and better. Easier said than done right?
I think that’s why so many people have a love/hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. It’s a perfect opportunity to set goals, new year, new possibilities, but so often we just drop off because we haven’t committed 100% or life gets in the way and when we fall off, we all have this tendency to just throw the baby out with the bath water! Instead of addressing the situation, meeting it head on, we put our head in a hole, avoid the situation, drop out, drop off… This avoidance follows us in relationships, in work situations, basically in life. We don’t ever learn to meet something head on and face the reality of the situation.
Our fear drives our self sabotaging behaviors because we are more comfortable in the reality that we currently have (no matter how bleak or painful) than facing a new reality. We stay afraid and we stay the same.
There’s so much more to talk about here. I will definitely keep writing on this topic, because it is something I struggle with daily and has been the undercurrent in my life. Yet, when people meet me, I don’t seem like the fearful type… It’s taken a long time to get to where I am and all I can say is that the journey is never done. As I keep learning, I hope to keep sharing and helping someone with each nugget that gets me through each day, each goal, each plateau, each pitfall.
If this blog hits home, reach out to me and we can begin facing fears together.
In love and light~
